PhD

From 1 January 2010, all PhD candidates admitted to researcher training at UiB must register twice a year in order to update their information and status as a researcher training candidate. This is part of the improved follow-up of PhD candidates' progress and status.

PhD registration is done via studentweb and takes approximately five minutes. The registration procedure has been designed in a simple and clear manner. PhD candidates are requested to confirm the contract information in their doctoral agreements and state whether any changes have taken place in relation to periods of leave or other absences. In spring 2010, PhD candidates will only be asked to register in relation to active status and contact information.

In autumn 2010, it will be possible to register the various course candidates would like to take, as well as keeping track of the activities that have already been approved as part of the plan for researcher training. Studentweb will be a useful information channel for PhD candidates, helping them to keep track of the progress of their researcher. Studentweb provides an overview of approved courses, information about contractual terms and conditions and matters relating to research fellowships and their duration.

The deadline for registration in spring is 1 February and 1 September in the autumn.

PhD registration also applies to external candidates who have been admitted to researcher training at our faculties. PhD candidates who are on leave of absence or are absent for other reasons must also register in order to report that they are still in the researcher training programme, explaining that they are on leave or other type of absence. This is to ensure that all PhD candidates are registered with active PhD candidate status and that UiB has the necessary information about leave of absence or other absences when it reports to the Ministry of Education and Research twice a year.

Consequences of non-registration
PhD registration is mandatory for all PhD candidates and is part of the overall quality assurance of researcher training and the follow-up of each individual candidate. The PhD regulations require PhD candidates to inform their faculty about their progress via a progress report once a year. PhD registration will be part of this progress follow-up.

To register, log on to studentweb using your user ID and pin code.  If you require assistance, contact your faculty.
