About our research

The research group on Operational Psychology has its focus on effective cooperating in operational teams and organizations, including the defence, police force, and rescue areas. Central issues within Operational Psychology are situational awareness, risk assessment, decision making, and problem solving under time constraints and uncertainty.

Some examples of research in Operational Psychology:

HSE culture in the petroleum industry
How authentic leadership and psychological capital could

strengthen and sustain a positive HSE culture and improve HSE outcomes in the petroleum industry.

Teamwork in trauma teams
By generating knowledge about processes which enhance emergency teamwork and predicts outcome within medical trauma teams, better training could be designed.

Shared mental models

Focusing on team work processes and shared mental models in operational teams. One research issue is weather knowledge about team members has an effect on performance and team processes.

Situational awareness
Explores Individual factors like cognition, psychophysiology and personality in relation to situation awareness and performance. An explicit focus is on how to train situation awareness in simulators.

Ethics in military-operational leadership
What are the relationships between individual differences in moral reasoning and identity, leadership, and moral behavior in operational situations? The research findings will have potential implications for future training and selection of military personnel.

The new Norwegian personality hardiness measure
Recent years have seen a growing interest in factors that confer resilience under pressure. One such resilience resource that has been proven useful is the personality style known as hardiness.
