Professor Berit Rokne (b. 1954) is Deputy Rector at the University of Bergen (UiB). From 2005 to 2009, she was Vice-Rector of Education.

She is Professor of Nursing Science at the Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care. She took a master's degree (hovedfag) in Education in 1984 and became dr.polit in 1993. In the period 1993 to1996, she was project manager for the Research Council of Norway's nursing research initiative Livskvalitet ved kronisk sykdom og aldring (‘Quality of life in chronic illness and aging’). From 1996 to 1999, she held the position of Director of Academic Affairs at Bergen University College. She returned to the Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care at UiB in 1999 and was promoted to professor there in 2003.
Professor Rokne has been and is still involved in a number of research projects in the field of quality of life research with both national and international partners, and has given many lectures in Norway and abroad in that connection. Between 1993 and 1995, she participated in the European Research Group on Health Outcomes with the BIOMED I project ‘Harmonised approaches to ambulatory care outcome measurement in Europe’. In summer 2004, she had a period of study at the University of San Francisco. She is currently a member of the DIABEST research group, which focuses on psychosocial aspects of diabetes.
Berit Rokne (formerly Hanestad) has more than 100 publications registered in PUBMED. She has also co-edited two books and has written several chapters in other books as well as a number of popular science articles. She has supervised approx. 50 hovedfag/master's degree candidates and has been the main/ secondary supervisor for 21 candidates who have taken doctoral degrees. She is currently the main/ secondary supervisor for four doctoral candidates. As a member of the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS), she has been jointly responsible since 2002 for organising the annual summer school for PhD students in nursing science from about 15 different European universities. The summer school has been funded through the EU’s Madam Curie programme.
Professor Rokne has wide-ranging experience from different offices and committees, for example as a member of the Regional Committee for Medical Research Ethics, the research committee at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Bergen, the University of Bergen's central steering committee for the introduction of the Quality Reform, and the Unifob Foundation. She was also a member of the Nylenna Committee which submitted the report NOU 2005:1 God forskning – bedre helse (‘NOU 2005:1 Good research - better health’). She participated in the evaluation of medical research at the University of Oulu. She has also held and holds various offices in the Research Council of Norway. During the period 2000 to 2005, she was chair of the programme board for Knowledge development in professional education and practice. She was also a member of the Evaluation Committee for Research on Social Medicine and Health Services from 2001 to 2006 and was on the committee for the Strategic University College Programme up until 2010. She was an appointed member of the Educational Advisory Board at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University from 2007 to 2010. In 2010, she participated in the evaluation of the University of Gothenburg as chair of the panel that evaluated the Institute of Health and Care Sciences. She has now been reappointed as a member of the Regional Committee for Medical Research Ethics. She is also Deputy member of the Research Board of the Norwegian association of Higher Education Institutions. As Deputy Rector, she chairs various committees, including the university's research committee. Professor Rokne is a member of the EUA’s (European University Association) steering committee for doctoral education. She is also a member of a 'task force' group in the Coimbra network that focuses on doctoral education.
