Ethics in research

UiB wishes its staff and students to have high ethical awareness. This is crucial in relation to research, education and interaction with society as a whole.

UiB complies with the Vancouver requirements and endorsed the National Committees for Research Ethics’ ethical guidelines in 2000 (DAK-sak 49/00). In addition, UiB adheres to the ethical guidelines for the civil service and UiB's own ethical guidelines for staff and students at the institution.

In 2007, the standing committee on scientific misconduct took the initiative to develop its own ethical web pages (norwegian only) for which it has editorial responsibility.

Ethics in research

Each of the different fields of research at UiB has its own special ethical challenges.

Research ethics comprises ethical aspects of the researcher role and the execution of research, such as integrity, impartiality and independence.

Library for research ethics

The library for research ethics (FBIB) offers over 60 newly written texts on central issues in research ethics written by experts in the field.

The digital library also contains cases for discussion and relevant films. The texts are also linked to relevant news items and articles in academic journals.
