Your things to do
1) After receiving the job offer, you should start checking the requirements for moving to Norway. Do you need a entry-visa, or can you just register after you have arrived?
2) When you have an idea of when you will be arriving in Norway, you should start planning accommodation.
3) Keep your department at UiB updated on your travelling plans, and get information, advice or practical help from them regarding your move to Norway.
4) One of the first days after arrival in Bergen, you should complete your registration/application process for residence permit with the police. You can do this at the police station in Bergen, or at a Service Centre for Foreign Workers in Oslo or Stavanger.
5) Depending on what country you are from, many are required to get tested for tuberculosis (the police will give you information about this).
6) After registration by the police, you should apply for tax-card and id.number. (EU-citizens can also arrange this earlier if convenient.) If you register at a Service Centre for Foreign Workers, you also arrange for the tax-card and id.number there.
7) One of the first days after arrival, you should also register at the university for it-account and employee card. You should talk to your supervisors/boss at the department about the practical things you need to know when you start working here.
8) Once you have received an id.number – you can open a bank account, register at a phone company etc.
