Research institutes
The University of Bergen collaborates with several research institutes in Bergen.
These are Uni Research, Christian Michelsen Research (CMR), The Industrial and Aquatic Laboratory (ILAB), Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center, Institute for Research in Economics and Business Administration (SNF), Chr. Michelsens Institutt (CMI), National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research, Institute of Marine Research and the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (NOFIMA).
UiB owns parts of Uni Research (85 %), ILAB (50 %), CMR (50 %) and SNF (2 %).

Uni Research is engaged in research and development in the fields of health, language and information technology, marine biology, the environment, climate, petroleum, culture and the social sciences.

The Industrial and Aquatic Laboratory (ILAB)
ILAB’s main goal is to arrange aquatic research project for the scientific environment at the universities but also for the aquaculture industry.

Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center
The Nansen Center conducts basic and applied environmental research funded by national and international governmental agencies, research councils and industry.

With a basis in the leading universities in Norway, Institute for Research in Economics and Business Administration is a national institution for applied research in economics and business administration.

Chr. Michelsen Institute
Chr. Michelsen Institute is an independent, non-profit research institution and an international centre in policy-oriented and applied development research.

National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES)
The institute's research focus is nutrition: feed for fish - and fish as food. The institute gives scientific advice to the government and food authorities concerning health and safety aspects of seafood from both wild catch and farmed.

With a staff of almost 700 the Institute of Marine Research is Norway's largest centre of marine science.
