Information from the police for those arriving in Norway can be found here.

EU citizens
should register online online on the Application Portal Norway. In this online registration form you will also have to book an appointment for your visit to the police station.

Citizens from outside of EU

Foreign nationals and accompanying family members who have applied for a residence permit through a Norwegian foreign service mission (embassy, general consulate, consulate) must register in person at the local police station within seven days of arriving in Norway. Bring your passport and the letter of invitation/appointment from your host department at UiB.

People applying for residence permit from Norway, can to do this at the police station or at a Service Centres for Foreign Workers in Norway . But be advised if you are applying through the police; you need to ask for a  temporarily work permit as well, while your application is being considered.
NB - be aware that there may be several weeks to wait for an appointment with the police to give them your documentation and get your application activated. So in most cases, you should start the application process well in advance of coming to Bergen.

The office for handling residence permits and for registration for foreign nationals in Bergen, is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; from 9:00 - 13:00. (Waiting room opens at 08:00.)

For those living outside the city centre, you should check out the possibility to get an appointment with the local police as they usually have shorter time to wait to get an appointment (but same opening hours).
