Sick Leave
Practices and Requirements
• Notify your supervisor as soon as possible about your sick leave. In addition, please state the duration and any disability.
• For absence of 1 - 8 days, you can deliver a self-report of absence (the form) on the day you return to work.
NB: Only employees who have been employed for at least two months can use the self-notification form when the absence through illness is for up to 8 calendar days in a 16 day period.
The self-declaration can be used for up to 24 days during a 12 month period.
• For absence of more than 8 days, or following doctor's appointment, the doctor´s certificate/sick leave certificate/note should be sent/delivered the same day it is issued.
• Notify your supervisor if you believe that the sickness is wholly or partly due to factors in the work place.
• Contribute to a positive dialogue with your immediate superior about disability and the necessary measures to continue or get back to work/reduce absence.
• Actively involve yourself in the preparation of your own follow-up and contribute actively in the follow-up work.
You can expect:
• The immediate superior/manager (often the head of administration) to contact you if sick leave exceeds two weeks.
• The immediate superior/manager to investigate the cause of sick leave wholly or partly due to factors in the workplace.
• Your immediate superior/manager (usually the head of administration) initiates a positive dialogue about your disability and necessary measures to be taken in order to get back to work/reduce absence.
• The immediate superior/manager takes the initiative to develop an individual follow-up within six weeks.
• A collaboration with Health, Safety and Environment Section if the absence exceeds 6 weeks (long-term sick leave).
• That you are contacted at least once a month during long-term sick leave.
