Researchers from Comparative Politics and a number of other departments have created an interdisciplinary group on Experiments in Social Sciences.
The Experiments Group was established at the University of Bergen in November 2009 and is coordinated by Elisabeth Ivarsflaten. The aim of the group is to conduct, facilitate and develop experimental research in the social sciences. The group believes that experimentation can help solve disputes about causal direction in central social science theories, settle questions about political and economic behaviour, and can contribute significantly to improving and furthering survey research, which is a major component of much social science research as well as an important service that social scientists provide to governments, the public, and businesses. New technologies now make sophisticated social science experiments with high external validity cheaper and easier to conduct than previously. Researchers across social science disciplines need to join forces to be able to lead the way in the rapid scientific developments fuelled by experimentation.
