Alexander Berdichevsky

Alexander Berdichevsky (Aleksandrs Berdičevskis, Aleksandrs Berdicevskis, Aleksandr Berdichevskij) was born 1983 in Latvia. He studied linguistics at Lomonosov Moscow State University, focusing on Russian semantics, semiotics and natural language processing. His master’s thesis was devoted to Russian relational nouns. Besides linguistics, Berdichevsky studied literary translation. After graduation he worked as a science journalist: first, at Lenta.ru (a large Russian news website), later, at the Russian edition of Newsweek. Berdichevsky was one of the founders of the International Olympiad in Linguistics and is a permanent member of its organizing committee.

Berdichevsky’s project for the Future of Russian project is devoted to the linguistic behaviour of Russian-speaking users of different instant messengers (IMs). Special attention is paid to the evolution of language norms and the emergence of new linguistic phenomena.
