General Practice is the medical discipline practiced by the primary care doctor who encounters the common health problems of the general population. The discipline is acknowledged as a clinical speciality, and defined as one of the three major clinical disciplines in the Medical School in Bergen. The research group focuses on the development of methods and research strategies suited for the study of general practice as a clinical subject. We have competence in qualitative research methods, epidemiology, and clinical trials. Our main areas of research are diseases of the urinary tract, medical interaction and communication, and the use of the laboratory in general practice. Projects on drug prescription, mental disease, the prevention of coronary heart disease, alternative medicine and women's health are in progress.
