The Research Centre for Health Promotion
The Research Centre for Health Promotion was established 1988 by the University of Bergen with support from the Norwegian Health Association and is organized under the Faculty of Psychology. The Centre carries out research and offers teaching programmes with relevance for health promotion. The Centre is cross-disciplinary and collaborates closely with researchers in other faculties. The Centre is a leading international academic institution in the field of health promotion research.
Health promotion is founded on the basic premise that health is shaped by the entire human environment, and therefore:
- Individuals and communities must be empowered to protect and improve their health;
- All societal sectors (governmental and NGOs) should work and collaborate to produce healthy social and physical environments that make healthy choices easy choices;
- Within countries as well as across countries and regions of the world, action to reduce inequalities and inequities in health and quality of life is a major challenge.
Many of the Research Centre's externally funded projects are administered by Uni Helse a research administration entity of the university.
