IDM: Information and Data management

Continued expansion and development in data storage techniques, ubiquitous Internet availability and developments in data management systems have it made possible to develop large digital collections of multimedia materials from museums, libraries, archives, as well as public and private organizations. Unfortunately, the methods and techniques of information and data retrieval still contain weaknesses that hamper full utilization of this material by the general public.

The research goals for the Information and Data Management group are focused on addressing the above problems by development of theories, methods and tools for management, retrieval and presentation of multi-modal data from multiple data collections.

The IDM group collaborates with the research group for Cultural dissemination and museum design and the research group for Visual Studies. The IDM group is also collaborating with colleagues at the University of Tromsø and NTNU within the context of the CAIM project.
