Studies of globalization, migration, ethnic relations and environmental development have a long tradition at the Department of Sociology. The Migration, Environment and Development research group carries on this tradition, and is especially concerned with the following research topics:

  • Social inequality in a global and Norwegian context
  • Transnational migration, diversity and citizenship practises
  • Collective action and political mobilisation
  • Marginalization processes
  • Management of natural resources

These topics found the basis of important political discussions of modern society, both at a national and global level.
