Evolution of genes

With a growing database of DNA sequence data it has become evident that several problems have appeared that are related to problems with the homology between gene copies. In the process of generating phylogenetic hypotheses based on such data, tools to asses homology is a critical component. Our research deal with problems such as multiple paralogous copies of genes, and the unintentional amplification of mitochondrial pseudogenes from the nuclear genome.
