PhD student published in textbook
A method developed during his Master's thesis (2006) has now earned PhD student Sondre Rønjom a page in a new advanced textbook
With still two months to go before his PhD defense, Sondre Rønjom already has parts of his work published in a textbook on cryptography, "Algorithmic Cryptanalysis" (A. Joux, Chapman & Hall 2009).
The Rønjom-Helleseth attack is one of the main results from his work during his Masters and PhD studies at the Selmer Center, and deals with treating a cryptosystem as a large set of equations, and then using a new method for solving special nonlinear equations to break the cipher. This type of research reveals valuable insight into potential weaknesses of cryptosystems, thus aiding the development of new and more secure systems. Working with his advisor Tor Helleseth (Selmer Center), and various co-authors, Rønjom has been widely published in international journals. He is currently awaiting the topic for his trial lecture, working at NSM.
