Masterprogram i Avansert spektroskopi (Erasmus mundus)

Mål og innhald

The ASC network aims at preparing students to become experts and develop international skills towards doctoral studies, and/or professional industrial careers in chemical analysis, structure characterization and imaging, process monitoring, and molecular modelling, as well as doctoral studies.

A mobility scheme ensures that, in addition to high level of specialization and access to state of the art techniques, students will complete a common core curriculum of studies in different higher education institutions throughout Europe.

The "Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry" Masters course is a two year (120 ECTS) Master of Science with thesis degree, offered by a consortium of universities spread over most of Europe: University of Bergen-Norway, Alma Mater University of Bologna-Italy, University of Helsinki-Finland, Jagiellonian University of Crakow-Poland, Leipzig University -Germany , Université des Sciences et Techniques de Lille- France, Complutense University of Madrid-Spain.

The two year curriculum is designed to provide a sound background in advanced spectroscopy, both in experimental and theoretical knowledge, applied in the field of Chemistry, from a common platform of core courses (1st semester), and a mobility scheme (one semester minimum), combined in order to allow high specialization and access to unique techniques.

Opptakskrav

You will need to have a completed undergraduate degree in chemistry (equivalent to the Eurobachelor in Chemistry). You also need competence in basic mathematics, basic general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry corresponding to at least 60 ECTS credits. Furthermore, you need basic laboratory skills in analytical chemistry and general spectroscopy. English proficiency must be documented according to specified requirements.

Opptak:

Programmet blir administrert av ASC Secretary ved University of Sciences and Technology, Lille, i Frankrike. Programmet har eigne opptaksfristar og søknadsskjema. For meir informasjon om programmet og opptak:

Obligatoriske emne / spesialisering

The selected students will study in a minimum of 2 countries :

  • a 1st semester: at a first institution dedicated to provide all candidates with a common platform of core courses in advanced spectroscopic methods, including magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy and diffraction techniques.
  • a 2nd semester or a 3rd semester mobility for specialization courses where expansion is provided with applications in molecular synthesis, biology, nanotechnology, modelling, "green chemistry", medicine, materials and new energy sources.
  • a 4th semester mobility in one of the consortium institutions, is also possible upon student choice of a research topic towards the Master thesis, which will be strongly encouraged to be based on a collaborative project between two of the partner institutions, thus building a European dimension.

Omfang masteroppgåva

The master´s thesis (30 ECTS credits, 30 stp.) is the report of a research project dealing with the development of new methods or applications of advanced spectroscopy in chemistry and related fields. Joint supervision with supervisors from two partner institutions will be encouraged. Students will, with the help of a mentor, choose their thesis projects during the first semester of their studies.

Undervisningsmetodar

A combination of methods is used in teaching: traditional lectures, individual and group projects with written and oral presentations, workshops, web-based discussions, hands-on laboratory and field exercises with following data analysis, discussion and report writing. The thesis work is in the form of an independent research project conducted under the main supervision of a member of academic staff at the institution where the project work is carried out: joint supervision with a member of staff from one of the other partners will be encouraged the partners.

A virtual campus will be used throughout the programme for communication and the sharing of material and results.

Yrkesvegar

The ASC Master aims to prepare students to become experts and develop international skills towards doctoral programs and/or professionnal activities in chemical analysis, characterization of the structures of materials, and measurements of fast phenomena. This expertise is crucial in European Society as far as modern chemistry is concerned, with prospective needs in instrument manufactures, spectroscopic laboratories and analytical enterprises or administrative organizations.
