The Degree
The master's programme leads to the degree Master of Philosophy in Archaeology. It is a two year programme (120 ECTS credits).
Objectives / Contents
The Master's programme offers foreign students, primarily from developing countries, a higher degree in archaeology. The aim of the programme is to qualify candidates for research and teaching in archaeology and related disciplines in their home countries. This will be taken into consideration in the preparation of the individual study courses.
Programme profile
The master's programme in Archaeology has a global and regional orientation. Methodological and theoretical perspectives are on material culture in different local and regional context as a source for study.
Programme structure
The master's programme consists of five courses, together 60 ECTS credits, and a master's thesis of 60 ECTS credit (70 pages).
The thesis is the central part of the study, and the five courses are intended to lay basis for formulation of a realistic fieldwork plan, and an efficient fieldwork of duration of maximum six months. The thesis should be relevant to the candidate's home institution's needs and good scientific quality, the thesis shall be an independent piece of work, which shall demonstrate the student's ability to handle a specific research problem.

350 Archaeology Master's thesis (60 ects)
The Master's thesis shall be an independent piece of work, which shall demonstrate the students ability to handle a specific research problem in a critical and scientifically adequate manner. The thesis will consist of maximum 70 pages (one page -2400 characters) based on primary source material. Examination will be based on an evaluation of the thesis. 60 ECTS credits
Method
Students are expected to become familiar with central methods in archaeological research: Typology, Classification, spatial distribution, ethno archaeology, text and material culture. There is a course in method, but is also expected to be used in practical work with the thesis.
Admission requirements
A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language.
Prerequisites
Your bachelor's degree must have a specialisation in Archaeology. Such a specialisation should correspond to at least three semesters of full-time study.
