    Welcome to the University Library

    The University of Bergen Library has more than 1,3 million books, of which 220 000 are e-books. The library offers access to more than 20 000 journals, nearly 19 000 of them are e-journals. In our special collections you can find comprehensive newspaper collections, historical pictures, as well as manuscripts and diplomas from as far back as the 13th century.

    Our Special Collections - a Treasure

    The library contains unique collections of valuable materials, a.o. historical photographs from all over Norway, with a special emphasis on Bergen and Western Norway. We also have hand-written manuscripts dating back to the 13th century, as well as antiquarian books, maps and newspapers.

    New service - Chat with a Librarian

    From Monday 2. May the library offer reference assistance using instant messaging. The service is in a "beta phase" until the end of the semester, 15. June.

    Randi E. Taxt recommends establishing a fund to cover the expenses that authors incur, when they publish articles in open electronic journals.

    Few use open archives

    An investigation has shown that only six percent of selected scientific articles are placed in UiB’s open electronic archive – BORA.
