Medical Centre offers medical services to students and international employees
A new Medical Centre at Vektertorget will offer emergency treatment to UiB’s students and international employees who do not have their own family doctor in Bergen. The new Medical Centre will open on 2nd January, 2012 and will also offer a GP service.
The arrangement concerning emergency appointments is a collaboration between the University of Bergen (UiB), the Student Welfare Organisation in Bergen (SiB) and Bergen City Council, and is part of the GP’s community medical work.
The University of Bergen has rented premises at Vektortorget. These premises have recently been redecorated and Bergen City Council has given three GP authorizations to the new Medical Centre.
Specifically for the use of international employees and students
International employees and students do not usually have their
own family doctor here in Norway, whilst many Norwegian students have a family doctor – but in another part of the country.
Emergency treatment will be offered to
- Foreign employees and students at UiB who are not entitled to a GP , and their families
- Students who do not have a GP in Bergen.
The three doctors, Nicolas Øyane, Shagun Bhatia and Esther Gundersen, speak Norwegian, Hindi, Urdu, English, French and German.
Agreement concerning community medical work
The agreement with the Medical Centre concerns the number of working hours that the doctors will spend on treating patients, and includes emergency treatment,
preventive medicine for students and co-operation with the HSE section at UiB and the health services at SiB.
