Democracy and Citizenship in Education
The Department will offer a PhD Course in Democracy and Citizenship in Education this fall. Deadline for application is September 9th.

Hovedinnhold
Course content
The course elaborates democracy and citizenship in education from a variety of theoretical and practical perspectives. These subjects are relevant for many subjects in school as well as related disciplines outside school. Therefore, the course will reflect approaches from a variety of fields of theory and research. An important starting point is that the educational system in most Western countries has a mandate and a task to raise (prepare) democratic citizens. This task is being challenged by globalizations, increased diversity and marketization of education. The conditions for developing political, local, national and/or cosmopolitan identities change accordingly. On-going research projects will be presented and discussed in the course, and the participants will be invited to present their projects for discussion.
