Hovedinnhold

Tittel:  Ocean, climate and fish: A conversation with leading experts on the future of fish

What do scientists predict for the future of fish in the ocean? How will climate change influence fish productivity, fish migrations and species distributions? We have invited some of the leading experts in the world out of the science symposium in Bergen and into the Statsraaden Bar & Reception to update us on the latest science on fish and climate.

Panellists:

Professor Gretta Pecl (Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), and Director of the Centre for Marine Socioecology (CMS), both at the University of Tasmania, Australia) is a Lead Author for the IPCC AR6 report, an Australian Research Council 'Future Fellow', and an associate editor for Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries, Frontiers Ocean Solutions and npj Ocean Sustainability. Gretta has been prominent in UN Decade of Ocean Science programmes, actions and working groups, including co-leading Future Seas 2030 and other major international initiatives. Gretta has a strong passion for science communication and engagement with the public, and is on the Australian Society of Fish Biology Hall of Fame.

Dr. Cisco Werner (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA - Director of Scientific Programs and Chief Science Advisor, USA). Prior to joining NOAA Fisheries, he was the Director of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Studies at Rutgers University. He leads NOAA Fisheries' efforts to provide the science needed to support sustainable fisheries and ecosystems and to continue progress in ending overfishing, rebuilding fish populations, saving critical species, and preserving vital habitats. He has also published extensively on the effects of physical forcing on marine ecosystems and the impact on the structure, function, and abundance of ecologically and commercially important species in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Moderator: Professor Øyvind Fiksen, Vice-dean for ocean sciences, University of Bergen
