Autoregulation of membrane trafficking by an ER-resident receptor tyrosine kinase

Hovedinnhold

Hesso Farhan
Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo

In my talk, I will discuss the autoregulation of secretory trafficking. Autoregulation is a common feature of all major biological systems. Yet, how secretion is autoregulated remains largely unknown, especially with respect to the largest cell organelle, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). We have identified a receptor tyrosine kinase that is resident in the ER and that plays a role in autoregulation of ER export. I will present evidence that this autoregulation is relevant for the physiological transition of cells from a state of low to high secretory burden. I will also discuss the potential of this autoregulation as a drug target in multiple myeloma.
