CCBIO seminar - Bruce Baguley

Hovedinnhold

Speaker: Bruce Baguley, the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre, The University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Title: The importance of being... a receptor tyrosine kinase.
Time: 14:30.
Host: Jim Lorens

Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) are complex machines located on the surface of our body's cells. There are more than 50 different types and each acts to translate external signals from growth factors into cellular responses. RTKs have formed the basis for the development and clinical application of a series of important anticancer drugs and antibodies, but early predictions of clinical success have been tempered by findings of development of resistance. This talk explores the dynamics of tumour growth and the possible role of RTKs in these dynamics. It concludes with a summary of how collaborative studies of early passage cell lines might help us to understand and counteract resistance to RTK inhibitors.

After the seminar, CCBIO is pleased to invite you to a get-together outside the auditorium where pizza and beverages will be served.

We welcome all interested researchers, students and others!
