A broad background in classical and modern statistics, both theoretical and applied. Time series analysis, spatial statistics, econometrics, sparse Bayesian learning, statistical ecology, computational statistics, latent variable modelling, wavelet methods, statistical surveillance and medical statistics. The group also has solid experience with applications, including close collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen, Haukeland university hospital and local insurance companies. Further research activities include long term participation in international management organizations and editorial services. The group has close connection to researchers at the Department of Mathematics, including topological data analysis and image analysis. The statistic group also runs a comprehensive educational program in statistics (bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. levels), including a Bachelor program in statistics, and a master program with three directions:  finance theory and insurance mathematics, mathematical statistics and data analysis.
