Other Futures. Anthropology, Energy and Life After Capitalism.
CET and the department of Social Anthropology is happy to announce the upcoming seminar with Mao Mollona from Goldsmiths University, London on the 19th of September.
In this talk I discuss some methodological and conceptual implications of the anthropological study of energy. I particularly highlight three fields (and scales) of energy study: north/south relations, corporations and cities. In the talk I also discuss how projections and reflections about the future of capitalism can contribute to a new kind of radical political economy.
Massimiliano(Mao) Mollona is senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths University, London. He has a multi-disciplinary background in Economics and Anthropology He conducted extensive fieldworks in Italy, UK and Brazil, mainly in “steel-towns”, looking at the relationships between economic development and political activism, and for more than twenty years he has promoted research and debates around the global working class in his various capacities of scholar, filmmaker, curator and public intellectual. Mollona was artistic director of the Athens Biennale (2015-2017) and one of the directors of the Bergen Assembly (Norway) in 2017 with the collective Freethought.
