THE HYPERREAL AND THE APPARATUS

The Hyperreal (seemingly more real than real) and the apparatus (technical equipment) module will provide a deepening insight into the focus areas of photography and painting and the inter-relationship and influence between the two media.

PAINTING AND PHOTOGRAPHY AS CONVERSATION, REFLECTION, POETIC AND POLITICAL.

Through PAINTING and PHOTOGRAPHY individually and collectively the following will be explored in a workshop format:

• PAINT + STAIN: notions relating to the bodily, poetic and entangled states of being in relation to landscape and bodies of water.
• FIGURES + FEMINISMS exploring the figure/body through paint and text.
• CYANOTYPES + TANNINS reflecting on the cyanotype process as a potential ecosystem capable of capturing relations between the weather: sun, clouds, rain and things: inanimate material objects.
• As a group we will observe the cyanotype process as a living place, an active and natural chemical context, in which to capture the material world as shadows and abstractions.
• PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO AS STAGE TO EXPLORE THE HYPERREAL THROUGH PAINTED + PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE.
• EPSON PRINTER / APPARATUS for preparing the final project to be installed in an exhibition form, critiqued and assessed as an ecosystem.

Activities will include: reading and conversation, individual and group guidance, introduction to specialized tools and techniques, exercises, experimentation and presentations.
