Mål og innhald

This is a project based module with a focus on printed matter.

In an experimental process a variety of possibilities within publication are explored. Books, fanzines, magazines, booklets, catalogues and other formats will be discussed through examples of artist publications of all kinds.

Presentations and discussions form the discursive part, on the basis of which each student investigates materials, reproduction-methods, formats and/or distribution, leading up to individual and/or group presentations of the resulting publication(s).

Goal:

Extended focus and insight into contemporary artist publications and its use of printed matter. Through the development of an individual and/or a group project the student will aquire experimental printing techniques and experience of how small editions can be produced .

Utfyllande semesteromtale

Publish! is a module on artists books and artist publishing with:

Ciara Philips, professor in printmaking

Chloe Lewis, associate professor in sculpture/installation

This emne explores the artist's book as medium, activating a space for experimentation and production while delving into the history, character, and characteristics of book-based artworks. Students will each develop their own project over the duration of the course, and will be introduced to various techniques and approaches through lectures, readings, guest presentations and tutorials, and workshops in screen printing, risography, and bookbinding.

The following semester, course participants will additionally have the opportunity to participate in the Bergen Art Book Fair (BABF) ¿ an annual, international event held every spring in Bergen ¿ where they can publicly present their works and meet artists and publishers engaged in the field.
