Youth and Politics

Lågaregradsemne

Emnebeskrivelse

Mål og innhald

This course is intended for students enrolled in the Bachelor's program in Comparative Politics and covers some central topics in political behavior, electoral studies, and political representation. It focuses on the political behavior and attitudes of young people. The objectives of the course include, and are not limited to, understanding how young people become politically interested and socially engaged, as well as examining patterns of political participation among young people. Topics covered in the course include voting patterns among young people, the role of political parties in engaging young people, the impact of young candidates running for office, and the representation of young people's interests in the political process. The course will address theories of generational justice and draw on empirical examples from around the world. It will compare the dynamics of participation and representation in countries and regions with aging populations to those with large shares of young populations. The lectures will combine a variety of theoretical approaches, different methodological tools, and empirical examples to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
