Mål og innhald
The aim of this course is to examine giftedness and gifted education from an international perspective, and in the Norwegian context.
This course will provide the students with knowledge and understanding about gifted education both internationally and in the Norwegian context. The aim in this course will give students knowledge about giftedness and common characteristics in gifted children. Facilitation for gifted children in education is an important topic in this course. As well as consequences and educational outcomes for gifted children. The course will primarily focus on education in schools.
On completion of the course, students should have the following learning outcomes defined as knowledge, skills, and general competence:
- Has knowledge about, and can critically reflect upon gifted education in an international and national context
- Has insight into and understanding of relevant theories on giftedness
- Has knowledge about, and can critically reflect upon different methods of facilitation for gifted children
- Can describe and outline what characterizes gifted children
- Can discuss various theories regarding giftedness and how they differentiate from each other
- Can describe different methods for facilitation and discuss their usefulness
- Can discuss how different methods of facilitation can be implemented in school.
- Can critically reflect on questions regarding professional, ethical and educational policy, regarding gifted children, both on an individual and systemic level.
- Can convey and discuss different research questions andidentify dilemmas regarding giftedness and gifted children in an international or national context.
Krav til forkunnskapar
No preliminary knowledge is required.
It is recommended that students have knowledge about education, special needs education and educational policies before attending this course.

Lectures and seminars.
The course will contain:
- 6x2 hours lectures
- 5x2 hours seminars
Compulsory assignments and attendance that must be approved before exam:
- Participation in seminars
This course will use the following forms of assessment:
- 6 hours home exam (3000 words, following APA guidelines)

The reading list will be ready at 01.12. for the spring semester. The reading lists is about 500 pages.
The course is evaluated in accordance with the Faculty of Psychology's routines for participatory evaluation and UIB's quality assurance system.
