The book chapter “Quality and legitimacy in child welfare decisions” represents a theoretic perspective on decision-making in the child welfare system. Læret and Skivenes proposes a framework where one can assess the quality and legitimacy of a decision based on deliberative theory, meaning that a decision is legitimate when; 1) all parties have been involved, 2) all relevant information and knowledge have been included 3) all matters have been discussed critically and 4) there have been transparency. The book “Decisions in the child welfare system” is an interdisciplinary book which discusses child welfare decision-making in the light of theory and empirical knowledge. “Decisions in the child welfare system” is relevant for students, child welfare workers, politicians, researchers and other stakeholders in the child welfare system.
