IPSA Participation

Per Lægreid, Julia Fleischer, Ishtiaq Jamil, Steinar Askvik and Jacob Aars were chairpeople and discussants at panels at the IPSA World Congress. Helge Renå presented, and Lise H. Rykkja submitted a paper to the conference.

Lægreid, Fleischer, Jamil, Askvik and Aars each assumed the role of either chair or discussant at panel discussions at the 24th World Congress of Political Science arranged by the International Political Science Association(IPSA). The event was held between the 23rd and the 28th of July in the city of Poznań in Poland.

Aars chaired the panel Output Democracy? Bureaucracy as Locus for Public Participation which focused on the different aspects of "output democracy". Fleischer chaired the panel Public Administration and the Digital Turn, wich explored the use of digital means for decision-making of central administrative actors, and the possible implications of such means on legitimacy, accountability and efficiency. Lægreid chaired the panel Organizing for Societal Security and Crisis Management: Governance Capacity and Legitimacy, which discussed implications of transboundary and other crises on governance capacity for involved actors. These types of challenges are referred to as wicked challenges in the literature. Jamil and Askvik were convenor and discussant respectively at the pannel Institutional Trust and Governance in South Asia, to which a number of papers were also submitted and presented. Helge Renå presented his paper To follow or not to follow? On how Organizational Routines and Individual Skill affect Organizations’ Crisis Responsiveness. Lise H. Rykkja had submitted a paper for the conference, as had a number of university staff. Our delegates were also participants in several panels over the course of the conference
