The BCEPS team contributes to the academic community, particularly at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bergen (UiB), through their teaching and supervision commitments.

Teaching

Medical Degree Program:

At the medical and dental schools of UiB, BCEPS scholars play a vital role in shaping the ethical foundation of future medical professionals. Professors are actively engaged in teaching various aspects of medical ethics, population ethics, research ethics, and communication skills. These courses lay the groundwork for cultivating ethical awareness and responsibility among aspiring doctors and dentists.

Master in Global Health:

BCEPS scholars are part of the Master in Global Health program at UiB. In this program, they lead courses in research ethics, population ethics, clinical ethics, and human rights. By integrating ethical considerations into global health studies, BCEPS contributes to the development of socially responsible and ethically aware global health practitioners.

Basic Course in Medical and Health-Related Research (MedMet):

For PhD candidates at UiB pursuing research in medical and health-related fields, BCEPS faculty members teach research ethics as part of the Basic Course in Medical and Health-Related Research (MedMet).

Equity and Fairness in Health - An Applied Approach to Ethics:

This course provides an applied approach to ethics with a comprehensive understanding of ethical considerations in healthcare, especially in the construction of health benefit packages. It equips PhD candidates to address real-world challenges in healthcare priority setting.

Bergen Summer School 2024:

Looking ahead to 2024, BCEPS is excited to take the lead in a course on priority setting for Ph.D. candidates during the Bergen Summer School. This opportunity allows candidates to delve into the intricate ethical dimensions of setting priorities in healthcare, preparing them for the complexities of their future roles.

Supervision

BCEPS scholars provide mentorship and supervision to Ph.D. candidates, master's students, and medical students undertaking their research theses.

Beyond Degree Programs

BCEPS scholars are also teaching abroad in our collaborating institutions in countries such as the United States (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health), Pakistan (LUMS), Zanzibar, and Tanzania.

Several of our permanent staff members also actively contribute to various master training programs, including clinical nursing and bioscience.

At BCEPS, we believe that instilling a robust ethical foundation is essential for creating a future healthcare workforce that is not only competent but also compassionate and ethically responsible.
