Main content
In 2021, a three-year-old killer whale named Elida washed ashore in Sognefjord. She was found to be full of chemical pollutants, some which have been banned for over 40 years! Tests showed that Elida had more than ten times the harmful amount of pollutants in her body. She has been dubbed “The Poisoned Whale.”
During One Ocean Week, you can learn about Elida’s story at the exhibit “Elida - The Poisoned Whale.” The exhibit is a collaboration between the Marma-Detox Project at the University of Bergen, the University Museum of Bergen, and the Norwegian Orca Survey. Here, you can see a 3D model of Elida, watch a short movie about her, and, through activities, explore how chemical pollutants affect us all.
The exhibition is open between 10am and 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibition is also available for schools between April 8. and 11. See the One Ocean Week Schools programme for more info and to sign up.
Welcome!
