Prospective BIO students

The University of Bergen is fortunate to receive students from all over the world. We offer a large number of courses taught in English at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. We also offer Master's degree programmes in English.

International students residing abroad can apply for admission for a two year master's programme or as an exchange student nominated by their home universities for a period of study abroad (1 or 2 semesters) at the University of Bergen.

The Department of Biology offers research-based programmes and courses within a broad spectrum of biological disciplines. Around 500 students are currently registered in the different study programmes at the department. 


Most student exchange takes place within the ERASMUS+ and NORDPLUS programmes and through bilateral exchange agreements. You are only eligible for admission if an exchange agreement exists between your home university and the University of Bergen.

Full degree

The Department of Biology offers a Master's programme in Biology, with several different fields of specialisation.

Field- and cruise fee

Many of our courses include activites such as field courses and cruises. Students should be prepared to pay a small day fee for these activities. UiB is a tuition free university.
