In this talk, Sehoya Cotner will discuss what "scientific teaching" is, the need to approach our teaching scientifically, the evidence in support of scientific teaching, and some simple examples for integrating scientific teaching into your own scholarship.

Sehoya Cotner is an Associate professor at University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on strategies for effective teaching of evolution and ecology; evolution for the non-scientist, evolution in Galápagos, factors affecting student acceptance of evolution, and strategies for identifying student misconceptions about evolutionary biology. She has also conducted work on the use of technology in education, from the Immediate Feedback Assessment Technique to classroom response systems to student-generated video podcasts as a tool for dissecting and discussing scientific literature.
