Oestrogen promotes breast cancer progression in two-thirds of post-menopausal patients. Our laboratory has previously shown that oestrogen formation is affected by epigenetics, a heritable process reversed by drugs. In this presentation I will demonstrate how oestrogen production is stimulated by epigenetic changes, and how these alterations increase breast cancer risk and progression. Our work aims to identify novel therapeutic targets, and lead to better forms of breast cancer treatment with fewer side effects.
