State aid applied to environmental taxes – An analysis of the environmental protection and sustainable development objectives integration within the internal market
Research group for Competition and Market Law, Bergen Center for Competition Law and Economics (BECCLE) and Centre for climate and energy transformation (CET) have the pleasure to invite all who are interested in Green taxation and EU/EEA State aid rules to a seminar with Joana Pedroso, a PhD Student in Tax Law at the Department of Law at Gothenburg University.

Main content
Joana will present how the EU State aid rules are applied specifically to environmental tax measures in the light of the ECJ case-law on the subject. She will make a critical analysis of these rulings and their impact on the integration of environmental protection and sustainable development objectives within the internal market. Moreover, she will address questions relating to tax law and the Environment, such as harmonized and non-harmonized taxes, or fiscal versus regulatory taxes and point out some of the possible trends following the current environmental needs and political scenario.
Joana Pedroso has an LL.M. in International and EU Tax Law from Uppsala University and an LL.M. in International Environmental Law from Stockholm University. Her current project is a Ph.D. research on the subject of the EU State aid law applied to environmental taxes, such as taxes on chemicals and harmful substances, at Gothenburg University. Joana is particularly interested in bringing the environmental perspective into the EU law, EU tax law and EU State aid law discourses, as well as to improve the synergy of environmental related research.
This seminar is in cooperation with BECCLE.
