Applicants from outside the EU/EFTA area

Due the COVID-19 pandemic and the entry restrictions to Norway, the University of Bergen has made the difficult decision to cancel all inbound exchange in the Autumn semester 2020 for applicants coming from countries outside the EU/EFTA area.

The University of Bergen is strongly committed to international mobility and we are convinced of its importance for students. The students' health and well-being are our highest priority, and our main responsibility is to ensure that the quality of the international experience for the students is optimal not only academically but also socially and interculturally.

Applicants from EU/EFTA and Great Britain

The University of Bergen is planning to welcome students from EU/EFTA and Great Britain for the autumn semester of 2020. This does not apply to clinical rotation at the Faculty of Medicine which has been cancelled.

Our campus will be open and we look forward to welcoming as many students as possible to Bergen in the next academic year.

The Norwegian government has announced that the following groups will be able to enter from 1 July 2020:

  • People who have a study permit
  • EU/EEA citizens who have the right of residence as students

The University of Bergen is strongly committed to international mobility and we are convinced of its importance for students. It is therefore our main responsibility to safeguard the students' health, and to insure optimal quality of their international experience in its academic, social and intercultural aspects. We are therefore planning to offer a hybrid approach – a blend of in-person instruction and online instruction, taking into consideration the safety and health measures imposed by the Norwegian authorities.

Letter of Acceptance

The University of Bergen is planning to go ahead with student exchange in the autumn semester of 2020 for EU/EFTA citizens. We are currently processing and assessing all student exchange applications. You will receive an email as soon as your Letter of Acceptance is available in Søknadsweb.

Entry into Norway

The Norwegian government has announced that the following groups will be able to enter from 1 July 2020:

  • People who have a study permit
  • EU/EEA citizens who have the right of residence as students

Accommodation

Exchange students will be offered shared rooms at Fantoft Student Hostel. Sammen will start allocating rooms and sending housing offers as soon as the restrictions on entry into Norway for citizens of a given country are lifted.

Please bear in mind that the tenancy agreement takes effect on 1st August even though you may arrive on a later date.

Insurance

Students travelling to Norway are required to obtain valid travel and health insurance for their entire stay in Norway. Before traveling to Norway, please check your travel and health insurance, given the possibility that the insurer’s policy might not provide cover for any claims, losses or costs associated with the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and upgrade if necessary.

Semester start-up

Due to the uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions on social gatherings we are looking for safe ways to organize and conduct teaching in the autumn semester. We are therefore planning for a combination of in-person instruction in smaller groups and online instruction. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our main priority.
