Recommends testing after possible outbreaks
Due to eight positive Covid 19 tests among students at the Faculty of Social Sciences on Friday, UiB cancels the intro week events at the faculty and at the same time encourages all UiB students to take a test.
The tests were taken at one of the five rapid test stations established at UiB. Close contacts have been identified, and the relevant persons have been placed in waiting quarantine.
It is reasonable to believe that there may be a connection between the eight cases of infection, but those who have taken a positive test have been routinely followed up and referred to take a test at a municipal test station. The municipality will then take care of further infection tracing.
UiB is establishing a separate rapid test station at the Faculty of Social Sciences and asks all students at the faculty to test themselves. The rapid test stations at UiB will be open throughout the evening on Friday.
Rector recommends all students to take a rapid test
- We encourage all our students to get tested. The cases of infection are an important reminder to all of us that the pandemic is not over, says rector Margareth Hagen.
As an infection prevention measure, UiB has chosen to cancel all planned intro week events at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
In line with the advice from Bergen municipality, UiB does not cancel intro week events at other faculties.
Bergen municipality has encouraged UiB and other institutions to arrange an intro week as an alternative to unorganized partying.
- I want to encourage all our students to remember the infection control guidelines, limit the number of close contacts and get tested, says Hagen.
