Objectives and Content

Through critical analysis and discussion of relevant literature within the research field of Your choice, the course aims to give a good basis for developing your master¿s thesis. The following questions are important: What kind of studies characterizes the research field? Which theories, methods and data sources are used and how are findings interpreted? On this background you will be able to position and argue the relevance of your own project within a broader context. You are also required to choose a curriculum of approximately 1000 pages approved by your supervisor.

The course provides state-of-the-art knowledge within the research field which the student has selected for his/her master thesis.

Learning Outcomes


The student has advanced knowledge of:

  • Important research contributions in a research area.
  • Relevant theories in the area of research and how key findings have been interpreted.


The student can:

  • develop a theoretical framework for a master projects
  • situate the master project in a broader context, and argue for its relevance.

General competence

The student:

  • examine and systematize research literature about a topic, with a critical perspective.
  • Convey and discuss research problems and arguments

Access to the Course

The course is open for students who have been accepted to the Master´s program at the Department of Administration and Organization Theory

Seminars and workshop

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Approved draft and mandatory attendance at workshop. Approved compulsory requirements are valid in the current and the following exam semester

Forms of Assessment

Submission of paper, 6000 words (+/- 10 %)

AORG308B 15 credits, AORG308A 10 credits og AORG309 10 credits.

Course Evaluation

The course is evaluated every third year.
