Course description

Objectives and Content

The subjects are the genetic basis of fish behaviour, motivation and ontogeny, different reactions to stimulation, and the most important sense organs. Special emphasis will be put on the behavioural ecology of foraging, reproduction and schooling, in particular differences in behaviour between populations and individuals. Selected articles and monographs will be discussed in seminars.

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide students with increased knowledge about the organisation and function of fish behaviour and how it can be quantified and analysed.

Semester of Instruction

Spring. THE COURSE WILL NOT BE TAUGHT SPRING 2024.

 

This course has a limited capacity, enrolment is based on application. The application deadline is Wednesday in week 2 for the spring semester. Please see this page for more information. You will receive confirmation of whether you received a seat in Studentweb no later than Monday in week 3.

 

It is compulsory to attend the first lecture/orientation meeting, or you risk losing your seat. If you are unable to attend the first lecture, you must contact the Study Section (studie.bio@uib.no) The time of the first lecture/orientation meeting can be found in the schedule on the course website or on Mitt UiB.

Required Previous Knowledge
Compulsory parts of Bachelor's degree in Biology, or equivalent courses.
Recommended Previous Knowledge
BIO213 Marine Ecology, Environment and Resources, BIO280 Fish Biology I - Systematics and Anatomy.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

The student must hold at least one seminar covering parts of the syllabus.

 

Compulsory activities have to be passed in order to take the exam. Approved compulsory activities are valid for 6 semesters, including the semester of completion.

Grading Scale
The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade, grade F is a fail.
