Course description

Objectives and Content

Provide knowledge about fundamental processes leading to cancer development, how cancer cells differ from their normal counterparts, molecular peculiarities of cancer cells leading to their successful survival in the body, and the molecular and cellular mechanisms of cancer therapy.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to:

Knowledge

  • Define central concepts within tumor biology.
  • Describe the mechanisms transforming a normal cell to a cancer cell.

Skills and competences

  • Explain how ordinary cancer treatment works on a cellular/molecular level, and why the effects of such therapies tend to decrease over time.

Semester of Instruction

Spring
Required Previous Knowledge

Biology, molecular biology or equivalent on bachelor level, preferably completed with a degree.

HUCEL370 (3 ECTS), HUCEL372 (7 ECTS)
Teaching and learning methods
Approximately 20 hours of lectures over an approximate 4 week period.
Forms of Assessment
4 hour written exam.

Course Evaluation

Written evaluation using electronic/digital evaluation tool.

Examination Support Material
Simple, bilingual dictionary, that must be reviewable, meaning that one of the languages must be English, or a Scandinavian language.
