Objectives and Content
The master's program aims to provide a thorough introduction to digital culture, the theoretical and analytical methods, and work techniques.
DIKULT350 is an independent written thesis in Digital culture, which is a result of researching a relevant research question within Digital culture. The thesis covers relevant theory in conjunction with the research question. The theme of the thesis may include theoretical, methodological and a technological perspective.
The topic of the thesis will be selected by the student in cooperation with the instructor.
The aim of the thesis is to do research and develop new and relevant knowledge within:
- A theoretical tradition
- A method
- A theme
- A central issue
A central activity is participation in discussions and oral presentations in the research group.
After taking the course the students should have:
- in-depth knowledge of a central theme within Digital culture
- knowledge and experience of academic argumentation, discussion and presentation
Students who complete the course should able to:
- demonstrate depth of knowledge within a focused area of research
- analyse and develop complex research questions
- prepare and deliver an effective academic oral presentation
- produce academic texts on an advanced level.
Required Previous Knowledge
4 passed courses on the 300-level.
Access to the Course
The course is open to all students with the right to study in the master¿s programme in Digital Culture at UiB
Teaching and learning methods
Individual instructor guided meetings according to the contract.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
The student has to give an oral presentation at least 4 times, in general 2 times each semester, for the research group while they are registered at DIKULT350.
Forms of Assessment
Final grade is based on evaluation of the thesis and an oral presentation.
The thesis should in general be between 70 and 110 pages, with a minimum of 50 pp and maximum of 70 pp for thesis based on technical topics.
Grade scale A-F.
PhD students grade scale Pass/Fail.
The required reading is selected individually by the student in consultation with the instructor.
Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with the University of Bergen's quality assurance system.
