Course description

Course content

All scholars want to have impact, but how can this be achieved? In order to make a significant contribution, academics need to choose the right topics and be creative. The course will focus on various more specific and practical issues that need to be in place in order to publish articles that may have impact. In the course there will be discussions of experiences with academic writing, the design of creative studies, writing of research proposals, presenting scientific work during conferences and workshops, and persistence in dealing with demanding reviews. Since being a scientist implies collaboration and exchanging information, an overview of the social psychology of engagement in scientific work will also be presented.

Content and Methods

This course facilitates knowledge and understanding of Creative Research and Academic Writing by discussing various methods and techniques of doing research, presenting, and writing articlesl.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After completion of the course, the candidate

- Has knowledge of theories regarding the social psychology of work engagement

- Has knowledge of various methods to design high-quality and creative research

- Has knowledge of specific dos and don ts when writing an academic article.

  • Can design survey and intervention studies testing psychological theories
  • Can generate new and out-of-the-box ideas for academic research
  • Can write in an academic way and present their research convincingly

- Can master and utilize creative approaches to academic research

Teaching Methods and Extent of Organized Teaching

The various theories and practical approaches that are important for Creative Research and Academic Writing will be presented in lectures and seminar-style discussions complemented with hands-on exercises and independent work.

3 days (4 hours per day).

Recommended Previous Knowledge
Master Degree in disciplines relevant to educational sciences, psychology and public health.
Compulsory Requirements
Participation and assignments to be completed on individual basis or in small groups. Plenary presentations.
Form of assessment
Active participation and presentations in class.
Who may participate
The course targets primarily PhD candidates. Other groups can apply for participation.
