The course aims to give the student theoretical knowledge and practical skills at a high level within ocean technology with specialization in a given field. Based on this knowledge and skills the candidate should be able to carry out a research-based master's thesis research project.
The candidate must be able to both utilize established knowledge and take part in the further development of the research field.
A candidate who completes the master's program will gain experience from their own results and theories both orally and in writing, as well as training in obtaining and evaluating relevant scientific literature.
Content
The research field from which the students can choose a master project includes many topics within ocean technology as for example: environmental monitoring, technology for fisheries and aquaculture, marine mineral resources and oil and gas exploration. The courses to be included as a part of the master's degree are chosen dependent on the topic of the master project.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student
- Have a thorough knowledge within one or several of the focus areas "Marine measurement and control technology" (acoustics or optics) and "Marine installations" (construction / operations and maintenance).
- Can apply scientific methods necessary to support scientific studies and analysis.
Skills
The student
- Can help solve problems and find solutions in the field of ocean technology
- Can contribute to development of technologies and methods within ocean technology
- Can plan an experiment to make quantitative calculations and analysis of acquired experimental data
General competence:
The student
- Can use her/his skills and knowledge to analyze and identify issues in ocean technology
- Can communicate professional issues, analysis and conclusions to professionals
- Can contribute to ideas and innovation for new developments in ocean technology
