  • apply knowledge from research and theory in own work

General competence

  • The designer can:
  • communicate and interact effectively with others in development processes, within and outside their own field of study
  • critically evaluate their own progress and renew their own learning strategies

Access to the Course

The course is an offering to students admitted to the master's programme in design.

Teaching and learning methods

The students participate actively in the planning, production and design of the master¿s exhibition. Preparations for the exhibition include production of an exhibition catalogue and organisation of a professional, public seminar in conjunction with the exhibition.

During the examination semester, students complete the reflection component that is included in the examination, in writing or some other form. The reflection component should cover the student¿s work on

  • the project context
  • research questions
  • research, analysis and conclusions
  • experiments and methodological choices
  • strategy
  • process and result
  • possibilities for further development of the project

The examination also includes an oral presentation in front of the examiners, where the students give a report on the development and execution of the examination project. After the assessment, the students¿ works are shown in a joint public exhibition.

Academic supervision during the fourth semester takes place in individual guidance talks and in groups where the students also receive feedback from their fellow students.

It is crucial for the learning environment that the students show commitment and participate actively in the course, and are present where teaching and work take place.

Forms of Assessment

The master¿s programme concludes with an examination in the fourth semester. During the examination assessment, students are evaluated on the basis of the learning outcomes established for the master¿s programme and associated assessment criteria for the examination. Separate deadlines will be set for the submission of the written part of the examination project and completion of the practical part.

Basis for assessment

  • Master's project: design practice practical part
  • Master's project: written part
  • Oral report on the development and completion of the master's project during the examination assessment
  • Project presentation: concept/completion
  • Participation in planning and communication of the final degree show
