Course content

At the Department of Biomedicine the midterm evaluation is organized by the Phd-coordinator. The PhD-board will appoint an evaluation committee consisting of two members.

Before the midterm evaluations, candidates must submit a progress report addressing:

• • Scientific activities and results
  • Publications
  • The training component
  • Plan for completion and estimated submission date
  • Any problems or other comments

At the midterm evaluation, the candidate holds a public presentation of 20 min duration held in English. After the presentation, the candidate, supervisors and evaluation committee withdraw for a discussion. The committee will also speak to the candidate alone, in the absence of the supervisors.

A candidate with poor progression within one or more areas will be followed up individually.

Learning outcomes

In science it is of vital importance that a candidate can present his/her project in a convincing way. As the session has a structure of a scientific presentation, the feedback from the evaluation committee will provide the candidate with new knowledge related to:
- the quality of the presentation,
- how they should handle critics related to project,
- the status of the project according to the project plan.
This will give the candidate more insight into his/her own project.

Spring (April) / Fall (October)
Candidates with normal progression will normally complete the mid-term review before 2/3 of their PhD period, and latest three semesters before the end of the PhD period.

Course registration and deadlines

The candidates will be called in individually by email.

Part of training component

Mandatory for all candidates in the PhD Programme with main supervisor at the Department of Biomedicine.

Form of assessment

Approval is granted if the candidate has fulfilled his obligations with regard to midterm evaluation (delivered report, held presentation) and does not depend on the candidate's performance or progression in the PhD program.

Grading Scale: Pass / Fail

Course overlap

Full course overlap with all other midway evaluation codes offered at the Faculty of Medicine; MEGAD900, MEIFI900, MEIKF900, MEIKM900, MEIKO900, MEISF900 and MESIH900. Only one midway evaluation code can be included in the PhD candidate's training component.The midway evaluation will take place at the department where the candidate's main supervisor is affiliated.

Who may participate

Compulsory for all PhD candidates admitted to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Medicine and supervised at the Department of Biomedicine.
