Course description
Course content
The objectives of the seminars at the NeuroSysMed Research School for Translational Neuroscience are to provide knowledge into the research field of the disciplines involved in NeuroSysMed, and the treatment strategies for patients with MS, PD, ALS and dementia.
The seminars are organized in monthly meetings, and include the annual 2-day symposium. Both members of Neuro-SysMed and invited local, national and international speakers will perform during the seminars and symposium.
The symposium will have a scientific program, and the candidates will present own research and participate at the scheduled sessions. The seminars and symposium also offer additional time for live discussions between the faculty and the participants at the end of the sessions. ¿Meet the Experts¿ will be a part of the scientific program at the symposium.
Participation at the seminars and symposium will be registered and credited as membership of The Neuro-SysMed Research School of Translational Neuroscience.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing this course the candidate will have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
- Knowledge into the diseases affiliated with NeuoSysMed, and how clinical trials and treatment strategies are conducted at Neuro-SysMed.
- Knowledge into and ability to practice terminology and methods used in a broad range of scientific conduct at Neuro-SysMed.
- Be acquainted with and able to evaluate «state-ofthe-art» scientific breakthroughs at Neuro-SysMed.
Skills
- Make an individual assessment of a scientific presentation.
- Manage complex academic issues and challenge established knowledge and practice in the field, reported in individual submitted reports.
- Utilize input from fellow researchers in discussions, in own work.
- Improve own presentational techniques by presenting scientific work.
General Competence
- Be able to evaluate critically the treatment strategies and clinical trials on neurological diseases conducted at Neuro-SysMed.
- Being qualified to participate in scientific discussions nationally and internationally.
- Be able to identify and define future projects having developed a broader scientific horizon.
- Be qualified to perform independent research, and present research to a national and international audience of scientific excellence.
Be qualified to present research to users of health services, their relatives and the general population.

To pass the course the candidate must have:
- Participation of minimum 10 seminars
- Participate at the symposia (2 days) including oral presentation of own research. If own research is not an option, the candidate will present a chosen thematic relevant to the symposia.
- Prepare for and participate actively with meeting the coordinator for personal guidance and evaluation. The course-coordinators will be the evaluators.
To pass the course, the participants will have to write two reflection notes of 500-1000 words, with basis in their own research, achieved learning outcomes, and how they plan to implement this in their projects. If own research is not an option, the candidate will choose a subject relevant to future studies.

Programme
The course consists of participation on monthly seminars, symposium (2 days), 2 reports submitted with supervision from coordinator. Students will also present own research or a chosen scientific topic at the symposium. All tasks are obligatory in order to be merited ECTS:
- Participate at minimum 10 seminars in two semesters (attendance is registered at the seminars) (20 hours)
- Participate at 2-day symposium with presentation of research (20 hours) of literature search related to the announced topic.
- Participate at the information meetings (2 hours)
- Submit 2 reports of 20 hours work load (40 hours) of chosen subjects taught at the seminars.
- Participate at two meetings with coordinator each 1.5 hours (3 hours)
