Short Introductory Course in Norwegian Language

Undergraduate course

Course description

Objectives and Content

Students with Norwegian as their first language cannot receive credits for NOR-INTRO or any of UiB's Norwegian language courses.

The target audience for NOR-INTRO is exchange students with admission to the University of Bergen. The course is ideal for international students who are studying at UiB for only one or two semesters and plan to take a short introductory course in Norwegian language in addition to regular courses.

Completion of NOR-INTRO does not qualify for admission to NOR-U2.

This introductory language course focuses on vocabulary connected to topics such as introducing oneself and others, study, food, clothing, accommodation, weather and familiar situations, and events.

The course focuses to a large extent on oral language skills. Students will practice basic Norwegian phrases and pronunciation, and they will be able to have simple conversations in Norwegian about their daily life. Students will also practice reading and writing simple texts and listening to spoken Norwegian.
